(b) For cut lengths 24 feet or less. Over 24 feet add 1/8 inch per 10 feet to 1/2 inch maximum tolerance. Tubes not heat-treated to be stencilled: “HT-O”
Tests per ASTM A269 and A450*

  • Flare for seamless tubes
  • Flange for welded tubes
  • Reverse flatten for welded tubes
  • Hardness: Rockwell B90 or BHN 200 maximum
  • Hydrotest: At 1000 to 4500 psi depending on diameter provided stress does not exceed 26,000 or 24,000 psi maximum if ordered per P=2St/D.
  • Alternate: Non-destructive electrical test permitted unless order specifies which test to be used. Test to A450.
  • For details, refer to A450 specification.

NOTE:
The above tolerances on outside diameter include ovality except for thin-wall pipe. Thin-wall pipe usually develops significant ovality (out-of-roundness) during final annealing, straightening, or both. Thin-wall pipe is defined as having a wall thickness of 3 percent or less of the outside diameter. The above diameter tolerances are not sufficient to provide for additional ovality except in thin-wall pipe and are applicable only to the mean of the extreme (maximum and minimum) outside diameter readings in any one cross-section. However, for thin-wall pipe the difference in extreme outside diameter readings (ovality) in any one cross-section shall not exceed 1.5 percent of the specified outside diameter.

Permissible Variations in Wall Thickness
Seamless and welded (no filler metal added).
The minimum wall thickness at any point shall not be more than 12.5 percent under the nominal wall thickness specified.
